Between the Dust and the Deadlines: The Heart of Rural Women
The Story
The day starts early out here, sometimes before the sun, sometimes before the kids, always before we’re quite ready. But our view is a little different.
Life as a rural woman isn’t defined by one role or rhythm. It’s made up of a hundred small moments stitched together, work and family, community spirit, a bit of chaos and a lot of care. We show up in paddocks, in offices, in classrooms, and on sidelines, finding meaning in the balance between all that we give and love.
Our Stories, Our Way
Living and working as a woman in rural Australia means that we celebrate the unique perspectives that come from calling it home, different towns, different paths, and different ways of finding meaning. It’s a story of opportunity and challenge, of heart and hustle, and each of us brings our own chapter to it.
Among the rural women of c7even, we found some profound perspectives and views.
For many of us, working regionally is a reminder that ambition and lifestyle don’t have to exist at opposite ends of a highway.
“Being a regional woman is about showing what’s possible. You can have a successful career, raise a family, and enjoy an incredible lifestyle all from the regions. I want young women to see that you don’t have to move to the city to do it all, you can ‘make it’ right here at home.”
The beauty of regional life also lies in the small moments, the ones that remind us why we choose to live where we do.
“Raising a family and working in this setting has provided me opportunities to pursue new avenues in my career and still enjoy the moments that matter in my personal life. The people I interact with day to day are the salt of the earth, happy to help, and always deeply interesting to talk to.”
“Raising three kids here keeps me grounded and curious, always learning and challenging myself to find the right balance between career and family. It’s a lifestyle that inspires me to be courageous and to captivate others with the unique stories and spirit of regional Australia”
And beyond the lifestyle, there’s purpose. A sense of doing work that matters, work that tells the stories of people and places often overlooked.
“It is our job to not only connect and communicate with regional audiences but also to be a voice for and showcase regional Australia. As a woman, to be an advocate for regional voices makes me proud to come to work every day.”
And for others, it’s the sense of belonging that holds everything together.
“Living and working in rural Australia as a woman means to me wearing many hats: professional, caregiver, daughter, friend, volunteer – often all in one day! However, above all it means belonging to a place, my home, my family, to a purpose that is uniquely rural Australia!”
What Ties us Together
Our lives might look different to those in the city, but they’re no less full, no less ambitious, and no less connected to the world around us. Whether it’s raising children, running businesses, volunteering, or simply being part of something bigger than ourselves, we do it all with the quiet determination that defines rural Australia.
This International Rural Women’s Day, we raise our glasses, of coffee, tea, spectacles or whatever gets us through the day, to every woman whose story is written between the dust and the deadlines.
